Work Permits

Foreigners who would like to work and reside in Turkey should obtain work and residence permits. The competent authority for the work permits is Ministry of Labor and Social Security in Turkey, but the expatriates that reside outside of Turkey may apply to the Consulates of Turkish Republic in order to obtain work permit.
There are four kinds of work permit in Turkey;

* Periodical work permit; Unless the contrary is mentioned in the bilateral and multilateral agreements that Turkey is a party of, the work permits of the foreigners are given for a period of 1 year according to the residence permit and period of job of the employee by taking into consideration of the market situation, developments in the working life, economic and industrial developments in the employment, etc…
After the end of 1 year period, the work permit can be extended up to 3 years under the condition of working at the same job and at the end of this period, can be extended up to 6 years without foregoing condition.
* Indefinite work permit; Unless the contrary is mentioned in the bilateral and multilateral agreements that Turkey is a party of, the indefinite work permit can be given to the employees who are legally residing in Turkey for a continuous period of 8 years or who have a working period of 6 years in Turkey.

* Independent work permit; Independent work permit can be given to the employees who shall work independently with the condition of residence in Turkey for a continuous period of 5 years.
* Exceptional work permit; Unless the contrary is mentioned in the bilateral and multilateral agreements that Turkey is a party of, the exceptional work permit can be issued to the employees defined in the relevant law.
